Prototype: For many years, the four-axle diesel locomotives of the DB class 218 were the most important representatives of mainline diesel locomotives on West German tracks. Even today, these once widespread locomotives can still be found sporadically on non-electrified routes, including in service with the DB Bahnbau Group.
