Before joining Mitsubishi in 2016, Nissan presented the 4th generation of the Nissan NP300 Navara pick-up (also known as the “Frontier”) at the IAA 2015. In January 2016, the first pick-ups were available in Germany, although they had already celebrated their world premiere in Thailand and were already being sold there. For the European market, the one-ton flatbed truck was offered in a new crossover look with special comfort features and is more reminiscent of an SUV than a commercial vehicle. It is precisely this appearance that is intended to make the pick-up more suitable for everyday use and more family-friendly than the King Cab and large double cab models that appeared outside of Europe.
The fourth generation (D231) replaced the third generation, which had been built since 2005, in the one-ton flatbed truck segment. With the new Navara with its 2.3 liter diesel engine, interested customers can choose between two power levels, either the engine power is transmitted via a manual six-speed gearbox or a seven-speed automatic gearbox. Based on the Navara, the manufacturers Renault (Alaskan) and Mercedes-Benz (X-Class) will also be producing corresponding pick-ups from 2017. However, the facelift presented in November 2020 and the extensively revised version of the Navara was no longer offered in Europe because the factory in Barcelona was closed in 2021.
