The Spirit of California was the second operational B-2 and arrived at Whiteman Air Base on August 17, 1994. The 509th Squadron, sole operator of the stealth bomber, is divided into four divisions, the 509th Maintenance, Mission Support, Medical and Operations Group. This final division is the flying component of the wing. As the lead aircraft of the 509th Operations Group, the abbreviated designation 509 OG was added to the landing gear doors above the 50th Bomb Wing’s mission statement: Anytime, Anywhere.
