HO – 1:87 Scale
The debonair DKW was also known as the “Baby Thunderbird”
Baur in Stuttgart provided the prototype – and, even today, the Auto Union 1000 Special is highly sought-after as a stylish dream car of those years. The WIKING miniature with its grey and blue bicolour design breathes new life into the historical moulds and puts on full display the model building skills of the former and now legendary model builder Alfred Kedzierski. The original of the two-seater model had already been presented at the IAA 1957 and was finally produced from 1958 to 1965 at Baur in Stuttgart. Owing to the modest number of 5,004 coupés ever produced, the zippy-looking sports car remained an eye-catcher. In view of its American-inspired body shape, the 55 hp Special was also often spurned as a baby Thunderbird” – primarily on account of the front and the fender tips, which bore a strong resemblance to the model’s cousin in the United States.”
