The water in the box on the back seat is certainly not the reason, or is that “firewater”? On April 13, 1964, this striking sports car was presented to the public at the World Exhibition in New York. Its premiere was preceded by an unprecedented advertising campaign in New York. Touted as the “little man’s Thunderbird,” the Mustang was specifically designed as a lower middle-class sports car.
All of the vehicles had found a buyer on the first day of sales and more than 20,000 pre-orders filled the order books. With a total sales figure of 680,000 vehicles in the first model year, the Mustang broke all records and still holds them in the USA today. The beautiful sports car is also very popular in Germany. However, since the name “Mustang” was protected by trademark law by the companies Krupp and Kreidler, the 106 hp sports car was sold under the name “T5”. Even after such a long time, the legendary shape and sporty appearance are still in demand, as the retro version from 2006, the Mustang GT Premium with the special package “California Special”, proves. The model of the 1964 model is just as impressive as the original. The striking shape has been reproduced precisely and is shown in clear lines with razor-sharp contours. Many other details, such as elegant whitewall tires, chrome-plated rims, inserted lamps and indicators, chrome-plated steering wheel and the finest prints round off the perfect appearance. Driving this sporty convertible on the streets is pure pleasure, the two drivers are visibly delighted and enjoy the envious glances of the many people whose paths they cross…
