With this copper metallic, the Ro 80 was trendy

This copper metallic was trending in 1967. It was something like the harbinger of the flower power years in paint selection in the automotive industry. And on the NSU Ro 80, the shine of the shiny metallic paint seems to have been mixed to match the Neckarsulm Wankel limousine: Noble and full of quality while at the same time nuanced the rounded body line. For 18 years, the NSU Ro 80 was once a long-running hit at WIKING, first under the model number “12r” and later under “128”. So it’s no surprise that to this day significantly more NSU Ro 80s have rolled off the production line at WIKING than in Neckarsulm, where production of the original was discontinued in 1977 after 37,402 units. The “Wankel engine” project was shelved at the time, and the name NSU disappeared from Audi’s delivery program. In 1968, the year after it went into production, the Ro 80 voted Europe’s “Car of the Year” precisely because of its shape, the many safety features and the innovative technology. Today, the sedan is considered a car icon of stature.
