Sand is one of the operating materials that every locomotive needs. To increase the friction when starting and braking, especially in difficult weather conditions, sand from the locomotive?s sandbox is sprinkled between the wheel and rail via pipes. The sand, as well as coal and water, was refilled in the depots. The Auhagen model is based on a standardised construction that was and still is used, for example in the depots in Berlin-Schöneweide and Lutherstadt Wittenberg.The model is intricately detailed. You can choose how to position the storage tank next to the tower. It is connected by a flexible hose. Elevations are included for use with bedded tracks.
