It made sure the “Burger Stumpen” arrived safely at the shop
It did not take long for the VW T1 “Type 2” to become widely used in Switzerland – and to represent the colours of the “Burger Stumpen”, a brand of cigars that was beloved across the nation in the fifties. Unlike ordinary cigars, the “Stumpen” had two cut-off blunt ends along with a round shape that was rather short, but uniformly thick. The first VW “Bulli” was held in high regard for its reliable deliveries to the customers. This reliability was made possible by VW, as they managed to develop this innovative transporter in merely 51 weeks before unveiling it to the press on November 12, 1949. Its series production at the Wolfsburg plan began shortly thereafter on March 8, 1950.
